George Georgiou

World Press Photo winner George Georgiou’s new web site was ready to go the day after thousands of photographers and editors were treated to a fantastic presentation of his pictures from Turkey, at the evening show at Visa Pour L’Image in Perpignan this year.  Georgiou is using the Mimetic Galleries system on his own website, GeorgeGeorgiou.net. He will be offering limited edition fine art prints, issued by his printer in Istanbul, Atelier Elipsis.

Georgiou was one of the professional photographers who guided the design and functionality of the system. He insisted on the creation of the “Picture Behind” theme, which uses pictures from the gallery behind the title pages. It’s important to grab your audience right away, he said.

For his exhibition of photographs from the synagog bombing in Istanbul, Georgiou chose the “Vertical Book” theme, another of his creations. Arranging the pictures in a tight grid emphasizes the frantic chaos of the scene.

For slower, calmer stories that demand contemplation, Georgiou chose a standard gallery theme. His exhibition from the psychiatric hospital in Kosovo takes the viewer from picture to picture, slowly building up tension. Georgiou used the default gallery, but he modified the theme to lighten the background to a middle grey.
