Vanessa Winship

Vanessa Winship’s work is both documentary photography and fine art. See Vanessa Winship’s gallery. Winship uses the Mimetic Galleries system to show her photographs as in a gallery, giving the viewer a slower, paced, presentation of her journeys through the Balkans and around the Black Sea. She has modified the built-in themes, warming the grays to gently offset her traditional black-and-white photographs, as in her exhibition of portraits of Turkish school girls.

Winshop felt that a similar essay, a series of portraits of American children alive with the fire of Jesus, worked better in a grid. The individuals form a group, the layout mirroring the reality.

With such striking images, Winship decided to use the “Picture Behind” theme for her title pages. Her work is destined for art galleries and books, and her website reflects this.
